I have been working at Edelman full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

People, process, products, places. We have smart people; sound, documented approaches; innovative offerings; and offices in 67 cities throughout the world. There's a lot of opportunity with Edelman.

Cons

Little overhead. It's probably why we are so profitable, but it weighs heavy on PR staff.

Advice to Management

Strike a better balance of billable/non-billable work for senior PR staff. In other words, senior people are expected to do a lot of administrative work (staffing, resource allocation, new business, budgeting, financial management, training, other non-billable initiatives, etc.) and not sacrifice client work to get it done. It is incredibly difficult as there are only 24 hours in a day. And most aren't motivated by all the administrative work, but rather would like to spend more time focusing on clients.

I have been working at Edelman full-time

    Pros

Work with some of the industries best, access to all corners of the globe and truly a collegial work environment. Hands down the best place to start one's PR career.

    Cons

The same things plague Edelman that plague all other global PR agencies. Poor compensation, high burnout rate and demanding managers that don't value work / life balance. While the legacy of Dan is woven into the very fabric of this agencies being, some of his core principles are lost in the struggle to meet financial targets.

    Advice to Management

Management accountability and a focus on employee satisfaction. High turnover seems to be a detracting factor to team morale, the more people that leave the worse it gets for the incumbents. HR could also do a better job in finding the right talent, their lassez faire attitude and lack of attention to detail makes it hard to build a strong team.

I have been working at Edelman full-time

    Pros

Tons of resources, opportunities to work with very smart, creative game-changers

    Cons

Yoy really are just a number, unless you have an in with senior management. Stay too long and they will forget you exist.

    Advice to Management

Look outside of those who kiss ass. Value staff for the work they do, not the work they talk to you about.
