I have been working at Edelman full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Edelman actively stays ahead of the industry and involves employees and clients in the process. It keeps a good balance of PR fundamentals and stretch initiatives to help it go beyond its current position while staying relevant to what PR actually is. For the most part, its a people positive place - sure, there are times of stress, disagreements and just doing what you're told but, in my experience, they really want people to be people, to contribute their unique qualities and to create a collaborative environment. Super smart people. Some egos but where isn't that the case, right?

    Cons

Shiny object syndrome is pretty prevalent and hot new practices, specialties and initiatives can get too much attention for "what could be" while distracting from the realities of "what we need to do today." Love that they're pushing it but there are times when people start picking sides, want to choose their projects and heads get a little big.

Also lacks a little bit in the leadership development arena. The middle ranks get a little lost.

    Advice to Management

When you're investing in new areas, balance it out and make sure the resources don't get too stretched.

Identify and groom future leaders. Training and development often felt a little short sighted and could use a longer time horizon (might be tough to do in a high turnover industry)

Always remember who you are. Great job at that so far but there seem to be big things on the horizon. Innovation and intelligence always need to be grounded in humility and keeping the team engaged in the present AND the future.

I worked at Edelman as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

They really get you involved in a lot of the work, and treat you more as an actual employee than a part-time intern.

    Cons

The process and feedback for full-time hire was vague.
