I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time (More than a year)

Pros

While I was there, the company was trying to throw off the yolk of Goldman Sachs and buy back their stock. They also were trying to shift the culture to one centered around the success of students rather than the pumping as many students through class as possible. I'm not sure if they've been successful at making the shift.

-easy to advance, if you are a man
-young culture

Cons

Convincing students who have low academic skill to take on thousands of dollars in debt for an online course is difficult and at time morally questionable.

Advice to Management

Find a better way to keep students in school. Students are taking too big of a financial risk to not finish their education and they need outside support to be able to do it. This will also increase your bottom line as each student spends more on more classes.

    Pros

Good pay, nice employees, good benefits

    Cons

This a sales job. Don't let anyone tell you any differently. The students you actually "help" are few and far between.

    Advice to Management

I don't know. Their jobs suck too.

I have been working at Education Management Corporation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

the pay was good... start off at 40k plus with a degree
decent hours (depending on your success rate of course)

    Cons

everything else is terrible... yes i mean everything....sales job... dial the phone 400 plus times a day just to hear 300 voicemails and 100 hang ups...

Very unrealistic sales goals..... selling useless education to unsuspectiing students.

you can find yourself working 60 plus hours a week if you are not successful "getting applications" and "starting students"

At that point its just a constant hustle to get as many students as you can to sign up for school and ruin their lives with a useless degree and put them into unbelievable debt.

    Advice to Management

there is no hope for this company....sorry...
