I worked at Educational Testing Service as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work life balance with tilt towards life :)
    Friendly people
    Good treatment towards independent contractors
    Low work load
Great 401K and 403b. They match upto 6% of salary in 401K. 3% in 401b.

    Cons

Salary/contracting rates are below average to average.(Considering the amount of work this is reasonable)
    Some groups use old technology
Lot of fiefdoms which make simple projects complicated.
    Ridiculously low bonus

    Advice to Management

The place can be made more competitive bu removing some management layers. Unnecessary groups can be merged or eliminated to increase cohesiveness. The number of people working in IT is too much for the size of the company.

I worked at Educational Testing Service part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, can work from home

    Cons

They try to call your salary "honoraria" in a seeming ploy to avoid tax/employment laws; they do that in spite of offering a 403B program to test readers/raters, they seem to violate some of the overtime laws (missing breaks on overtime assignments, not paying double time when warranted).

    Advice to Management

Treat the readers/raters better. Offer some benefits if we are working on programs where we work 40 hours plus many if not most weeks of the year (some holiday or vacation pay, some health benefits).
