Pros

Friendly coworkers.
Flexible work (but long) hours.

Cons

No career growth.

Rediculous performance evaluation process.

No visibility on what to do next.

Two kinds of managers: 1, the kind that makes flashy plans but cannot execute the plans. 2, the kind that just follows their bosses or acts as a middleman but provides no support.

ESI has acquired a number of companies in the last decade, and the majority of them have been destroyed. The rest of these acquired companies have been signifantly down sized. None of the acquisitions have shown any business advantange in the long run.

Advice to Management

Are you really treating your people the way you say on the posters?

I have been working at Electro Scientific Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of smart colleagues and interesting work. Given the freedom to drive projects to resolution. A large variety of customers and applications.

    Cons

If management is not focused on your project you will get little to no support. If management is focused on your project it will be micro-managed to oblivion.

Lack of resources to cover the projects tackled.

    Advice to Management

Cut down on the number of projects so that those that are important are done right. Be more realistic in timelines and goals. Get out of meetings/your office and listen to what your team tells you.

I have been working at Electro Scientific Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are many smart and kind people working at ESI. Most are quick to help and teach.

    Cons

The past few years of the company struggling and several rounds of layoffs have been demoralizing. The Company is trying to hang on to its main business casting around to find new markets to grow into, not always successfully.

    Advice to Management

Man, I don't know. It's not been going to great.
