I have been working at Electrolux full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Great Group of People to work with. Good Environment. Good Managers.

Cons

Public announcements "HIRING" but quietly laying off departments simutaneously. Sending everything to low labor countries creates significant low labor results.

Advice to Management

Know your chinese engineering labor is generally good for about 2-4 years - then they move onto other companies with all of that knowledge we spent building them up. Likewise, look at Motorola's path - when they moved their production to China in the late 1990's it started out ok - then when they got effecient - their suppliers became their biggest compeitors. (Now Motorola Cellular in Libertyville, IL is vacant and HTC & Huawei are booming - both got their start from Motorola) - Short term outlook will have significant long term results. Upper High Management very nebulous, look at accounting numbers - quality runs asham. Failures they can't resolve without overkill support from US or Swedish engineers constantly flying over to china or mexico.

I worked at Electrolux full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A paycheck in a down economy

    Cons

This is a classic "churn and burn" employee environment. They bring in new hires by the dozens at a time. The regular front line employees never know if today will be your last day employed. They fire people at the drop of a hat, for any trivial reason imaginable. If you're lucky, you'll be assigned to a supervisor with better than a functional 5th grade education. I made a HUGE mistake accepting a job here. My once pristine resume is now sullied with a 6 month stint which didn't work out.

    Advice to Management

Be open minded and take each employee's ideas on merit, rather than allowing management to assume everyone below them are intellectually inferior. Experienced and highly educated folks like myself would love the opportunity to be recognized so as to contribute in some meaningful way. The assumed social strata prevalent in your corporate culture is suffocating.
