I worked at Electronic Arts full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

- Great environment to work in, good tech, fun subject to work on video games (provided you can deal with sports video games), with generally a lighthearted atmosphere when things aren't hectic
- Smart, experienced developers, artists, etc. who you can learn from and vice versa
- Variety of tech, languages, and more to work with and learn on

Cons

- Management is often misguided, poor at planning causing some long hours especially during Alphas when bug fixing should occur but feature addition may as well
- Communication can often be lacking, leaving important parties in the dark
- Company direction is not always intelligent or caring about the consumer, they don't think some of their decisions through
- When attrition occurs, management won't say a peep about it, one day someone's there, the next they are not unless they told you directly
- Moving up in the company is almost non-existent unless you have an "in" with people up high

Advice to Management

Communication is so incredibly important as well as proper schedule management. Not every feature can make the cut and just because you promised it to others doesn't give you the right to demand your workers be there at all crazy hours to pump out a sub-par product. I worked at Electronic Arts as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

    * Some very excellent people work there

    Cons

    * Trying to get contracts renewed is difficult. It takes them weeks past the "end" date of the contract to make a decision, and then they want to negotiate for "part time work" despite the amount of work that actually exists.

    * A lot of silos of departments that want to hold onto their little empire so trying to do cross-functional projects across multiple teams is difficult, esp. if they are in other areas of the country

I worked at Electronic Arts full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

-Like my title says, you learn from some people that are laser-focused on their role.
-Support structure for game industry. From soup to nuts they make or publish any and every type of product

    Cons

-Huge structure means innovation isn't a strong suit.
-Lost a lot of good people due to inability to manage costs appropriately a few years back and it still hasn't fully recovered.

    Advice to Management

Execs need to centralize as much as they can to let the studios put out good product.
