I worked at Electronic Arts full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

My immediate manager and the people I worked with were awesome, and put a lot of effort into finding the next project for the studio to work on.

Cons

At least for the studio I worked at, upper management seemed to make a lot of promises about changes and direction, but failed to either provide one, or support the studio when we tried to take the initiative.

Advice to Management

Be more up front about plans for teams, even if it's "We don't know what's going on for your future, but we need to solve this problem right now."

I have been working at Electronic Arts as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Video game industry, game discounts, some cool perks like on site car washes and massage therapists (do cost money), good manager will protect you from office politics and let you enjoy the work.

    Cons

Everyone out to save only themselves, no teamwork atmosphere, lacking the camaraderie I would expect in a large company

    Advice to Management

Be more accessible and promote teamwork instead of competition

I have been working at Electronic Arts full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. High talent density
    2. Performance based merit (mostly)
    3. Reputation and credibility more powerful/influential than title
    4. Mostly work/life balance
    5. Superb at taking a game that works and making it super high quality & iterating on it
    6. Frequent internal employee surveys

    Cons

    1. Obsessively process driven
    2. Nearly impossible to develop new IP that isn't mostly derivative
    3. Yearly re-orgs: studio closures/consolidations/lay offs/re-assignments
    4. Internal competition for IP
    5. Sometimes "who you know" is more important than "what you know"

    Advice to Management

    Less re-orgs please
