I worked at Elsevier full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Smart, fun people to work with, fairly casual environment, good benefits and bonus structure.

    Cons

Senior Management has completely lost touch with reality. They continue to hire more Senior Managers that do nothing, contribute nothing, and end up costing hard working, loyal employees their jobs as they have to cut costs. Constantly changing directions and priorities, while cutting budgets takes a toll.

    Advice to Management

Bring back people that were both smart and hardworking, but that also had some charismatic inspiration for their teams. Current Senior Management is uninspiring at best, and chasing off the people that actually contributed to the good of the company.

Additionally, allowing Finance to dictate product decisions is a disaster. And, every time you centralize a "service", the business loses the ability to get what it needs. Technology Development is a prime example... And, Human Resources is a joke.

I have been working at Elsevier full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Competitive salary and benefits, fantastic atmosphere, potential for growth within the company, encourages new ideas, diversity extremely prevalent and welcome, wonderful hours and balance between life and work

    Cons

With so many possibilities, finding the direction to go in is probably the worst part of this job as someone at an entry level position.
