I worked at Emerson as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of freedom to work at the pace and style you want to. The job encourages you to explore your curiousities. HR rocks and overall the company really takes care of you.

    Cons

I worked for two different bosses and they would sometimes fight over what I should work on next.

I worked at Emerson full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people doing the day to day work are doing the best they can and really do there best to help each other out.

    Cons

As an Emerson company the benefits plans have been lowered. No employee stock purchase plan, health care benefits were lowered and then the price was raised. As people leave they are not replaced, which increases the workload for the rest. Upper management from Emerson has the attitude if you don't like then go some were else, although they do say they want to make it a better place to work. For those reading this is a place for a job not a career.

    Advice to Management

Stop running this like a factory instead of hi-tech company. Your biggest assets are your employees. If they are not happy and do not have a sense of pride for being an Emerson/Avocent employee they will only produce low quality product and you will never get to your $1 billion goal. In other words take care of your employees and customers, the money will follow.
