I worked at Emerson full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

My time at Fisher was overall an excellent experience. Company is pretty rock steady and able to weather the peaks and valleys in the markets, and was reluctant to lay-off employees during the latest recession, instead choosing to offer voluntary early retirement packages. Solid management and strong relationships with its major customers. World-class engineering facilities.

    Cons

Upward mobility can be limited in engineering roles due to long tenure of older employees. Upper management has pushed to increase numbers of engineers in overseas engineering centers instead of adding resources in the US. Lack of planning for, and emphasis on, knowledge transfer from tenured employees to newer hires

    Advice to Management

Encourage and plan for knowledge transfer from older generation to younger. Better consider promotions to maintain parity between functional groups and encourage employee retention of younger hires. Improve salaries to be on par with other companies in the respective occupations.
