I worked at Epocrates full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Open vacation time, ability to work from home. Great work life balance. Good health care packages

Cons

- Extremely poor management
- Directionless, entire teams let go.
- Nepotism from CEO.
- No continuity.
- Hire people that are not afraid of learning something new, rather than shutting programs down because they don't understand.

Advice to Management

Might be a good idea to stop hiring your friends and fill upper management with talent. Have accountability at all levels

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Pays well, benefits are great. Company culture used to be great. Co-operation among departments that don't traditionally communicate in other companies.

    Cons

No room for advancement. Blatant favoritism to certain employees. C level managers came and went very rapidly in the last 3 years. No checks and balances-bad HR leader, bad senior level management and nowhere to let any one know of the bad leadership.

    Advice to Management

Someone should be checking the performance of VPs and asking their direct reports to evaluate them on a regular basis. HR should be a place employees can feel comfortable taking their work issues to rather than being punished for reporting negligence and incompetence.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Great product, loyal users, smart people

    Cons

The C-level management team brought in by the old CEO has dramatically underperformed and hurt the company. There are pockets of good people in the company who are struggling to perform well under their leadership (e.g. medinfo, product management, marketing, some engineering groups), but it's not as good a place to work as it used to be. The senior-level people (COO, CFO, HR) are really out of touch and don't seem to listen even to their own people.

    Advice to Management

Remove all C-level people, start fresh with the people who care and want to make a difference.
