Pros

There are a few capable Sr. Management people - very few. There is lots of communication from above on the corporate direction and how 'important' employees are to the company. On the surface, it seems to be a friendly place.

Cons

The peer group in sales is filled with some great people who really do try to do the right thing meaning most of them are client focused. It's hard to be happy about the salary aspect of things in sales because the comp plan changes every year, and not for the better.
Layoffs are of concern and employees are afraid all the time. Lovely environment.
A number of Inept VP level management - got there by kissing up to their bosses. When even their boss can't save them they're moved around instead of moved out. Layoff fate is reserved for tenured employees who have institutional knowledge and experience.
Beware of the politics.

Advice to Management

Take a look at where housecleaning SHOULD be done. Get rid of dead wood clueless management and try some good honest leadership. Respect the employees, you'd be surprised what you'll get in return. It's hard to show up every day when you fell like there's a layoff target on your back. Not really what inspires people to focus on the company's goals. This recession won't last forever - you're going to lose the few competent people you have left once it turns around.
