I worked at Esri full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Good benefits. Fun people to work with.

Cons

Raises weren't very good the last couple years, and when I transferred to another, more specialized position, there was no talk of a raise.

I have been working at Esri full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Access to GIS resources. 70 miles from the coast.

    Cons

Very low salary. Poor management. No opportunity for career growth unless someone ahead of you retires or leaves the company. Did I say low salary? Deadlands. I mean Redlands. Dying company. More politics than you can ever imagine.

    Advice to Management

    Leave. Hire experienced managers.

I have been working at Esri full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Less pressure to produce than most organizations of its size. Potential to make your own niche as long as you don't expect commensurate pay.

    Cons

No career path. Employee development is a strictly personal endeavor, and unless you have your manager's support you cannot even transfer out of your current situation no matter how unhappy you are there. No support whatsoever from HR, they see themselves only as a policing unit for bad employee behavior.

    Advice to Management

Not all your superstars are at the top of your organization nor are they department managers. Look around, see who is really coming up with the ideas for ways to make your vision for Esri happen.
