    Pretentious and Underwhelming

    Pros

Great place to work if you're not really about work. Fun people, lots of social stuff going on, lots of free time and mental cycles to devote to other life things like working out or reading or taking care of kids. Flashy office.

    Cons

You are probably going to bleed skills a bit from lack of practice. Low hiring standards, so you're not really working with the best or brightest. Very cliquish and political. It seemed like most of the interesting work was hoarded by a few people, and the rest were fighting over the scraps. If you are not an uber-hipster, you're probably not going to fit in very well. Extremely weak management can't seem to move the needle on anything. Also, negotiate your starting salary well, because adjustments are few and far between.

    Great culture, coworkers are awesome

    Pros

Etsy has a great culture, focused on having a work life balay, supporting remote workers, and encouraging the growth of their employees (training, rotations, etc.) My coworkers at Etsy are great as well, goes hand in hand with the culture, but not only does Etsy have the processes and policies in place (for example) to have peer driven recognition, but people actually use it!

    Cons

Like everyone else, Etsy struggles some times to balance short term reaction (as in today's macro economics) with longer term strategies it has in place.

    In it for the long-haul

    Pros

    - Actual work-life balance - The company is exceptionally mindful of our impact in the greater world: be that ecological, economic, or social impact. It is reflected in the software we create, the engagement with our sellers and buyers, the events we do, and the organizations we partner with - You work with particularly intelligent and driven people - Exceptional benefits like 6 months parental leave for all genders, 20 free therapy sessions per yr, unlimited sick and mental health days, IVF and egg freezing support, and catered lunches and breakfasts by local chefs for folks in office - Our CEO is accessible and seems to genuinely care about Etsy's employees and their wellbeing - It's a company that is easy to be proud to work for

    Cons

    - There are a lot (often too many) approvals required to get projects across the finish line which makes it difficult to complete work in a timely manner and often even develop as impactful outputs as intended - Limited opportunity for career advancement (role and compensation) - Extremely risk-averse - Many things are considered "urgent" which can then take priority and make it difficult to complete projects on your roadmap
