I have been working at Evolent Health full-time

Pros

-Some of the most talented coworkers I have ever come across, it can almost be intimidating. People come from the top tier consulting firms, hospitals, etc.
-People here genuinely strive to and believe that they are helping to change the way health care is delivered in the US and it is very inspiring and rewarding.
-Great culture and benefits - open concept office, healthy snacks in the kitchen, treadmill desks, collaborative team rooms, ample PTO and flexible schedule

Cons

-Since they are such a new company, Evolent is still trying to figure out some of its procedures, teams, and job descriptions, but there is more effort put to these causes than at other very established companies I have worked.

Advice to Management

-More established team relationships and stronger support for new employees would be helpful.

I have been working at Evolent Health full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I cannot say enough great things about this company and its employees. Everyone here is extremely bright, accomplished, and welcoming. Goals and vision are clearly articulated by management and everyone makes themselves extremely accessible. Even as the company has continued to grow rapidly, the overall positive environment, passion employees, and flat structure continue to define us.

    Cons

Very fast-paced right now, due to the overall growth. Flexibility is a must to work here.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up!

"Great people, terrible managers in the Pittsburgh office"

I have been working at Evolent Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people, the technology, the potential of the company in the healthcare field.

    Cons

The environment - Evolent Health in Arlington, VA has brand new beautiful offices with great chairs, nice computers, fully stocked kitchen fridge, nice conference rooms. The Evolent Health office in Pittsburgh is an old, outdated office, with chairs that are 20 years old, slow computers, small monitors, old and cramped conference room, and not even a kitchen sink in the office area. They have been promising to update or get new offices for us in Pittsburgh for well over a year. They probably never will, since it seems like they want to move and already are moving jobs to Virginia.

The managers - they're either incompetent, or have a hidden agenda. They seem to talk just to hear the sound of their own voice. They claim to know how to run a software project, but the software deadlines are always missed, and there is usually no clear direction. They always change their minds on what they want the team to work on. How can you get anything done on time with a large software proejct, when you have only 6 contract developers in the Pittsburgh office, while the rest are BA's, scrummasters, and other's who really contribute little. This isn't a slam against most of the non-technical people, because management does not utitlize them properly either.

Of course, there are some people in Pittsburgh, who spend their days dreaming up how work items should look in TFS, instead of focusing on what's important. The managers in Pittsburgh show favoritism among employees, and exclude anyone who does not agree with them. They also let their favorites get away with anything, don't discipline them, even if they harass other employees. The politics in the Pittsburgh office are the worst I've ever encoutered in a company.

Also, if you're a manger, how can you effectively manage a team in Pittsburgh, if you are based in Virginia? And visit one every two weeks for a day or two at most? And you don't talk to you direct reports, but ask third parties, who are not even Evolent employees, about the performance of Evolent employees.

Do yourself a favor. Don't take a job in the Pittsburgh office. If you're lucky enough to land a job in Virginia or some other location, then by all means, you'll probably love working for Evolent.

    Advice to Management

The SR management should clean house and remove all the managers from the VP of IT on down. It truly is a good 'ole boy network, but unfortunately one that will severely hurt the company. The Pittsburgh office is a disaster, and makes me fear for the rest of the company.
