I have been working at Exelis full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salaries can be really good depending on your job but you had better get it up front. You learn a lot and get great experience and skills. Work is challenging and there is always something new to learn. Some of the resources to do the work and support are really good in general but not always as good as they could be. They have an excellent pricing model for example. Many of the people you work with are nice.

    Cons

Company benefits continue to be cut and pretty much suck now all in the name of being competitive. Work loads can be extreme and they suffocate you with compliance minutiae. No matter how hard you work, they expect you to consistently take on more to get a decent raise and typically those suck too after a few years of getting no raises to cut costs. Layoffs are frequent and impact even long-term veterans of the company and all levels. This leads to a lot of fear to complain about anything and people often suck it up to avoid being targeted.

    Advice to Management

Morale is low and getting a lot worse. There is a sense that working hard doesn't pay off because the return is always the same regardless. Getting crappy raises coupled with benefits that keep getting worse will not motivate employees or inspire optimism and faith in the company. You're likely going to lose a lot of good people in the long run when the economy makes it possible to find something better and you'll deserve it. But you don't seem to care anyway. Simply saying everyone else is doing this or giving the same being competitive excuse gets old. How much money did you waste branding yourself ITT Exelis after the spinoff for example only to change your name to just Exelis now? You save at employee expense but waste so much in other areas needlessly.

I worked at Exelis full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay was okay but not for the work expected.

    Cons

Ridiculously long hours and being held "hostage".

    Advice to Management

Be more understanding of employees' needs. Give and take.
