I worked at Expedia as a contractor

    Pros

Good rate, good work life balance, free drinks and constant free food. Moderately interesting work. Some nice people.

    Cons

I found most of the FTE's to be very dismissive.

If you are the type who likes quiet and the ability to concentrate and be productive... this is NOT the place for you. Tons of overhead in the form of excessive levels of management, endless meetings, project tracking admin. It wasn't unusual to get only 3 or 4 productive hours out of a day. The 'open collaborative' work space was a nightmare. Packed in like sardines with no place to escape. With a desk in the middle of the large open lunch room (which had multiple, loud events per week), bathrooms, and multiple conference rooms (where a singing group sometimes practiced) and all the traffic that results in, there were times I had to go outside just to think.... but wifi doesn't go there,

Parking at $240/month and often in another building blocks away, was ridiculous.

    Advice to Management

Go around and count the number of people wearing headphones and then talk to me about collaborative environments. I don't know what the new offices look like but I sure hope they are more WORK friendly. As much as people bad-mouth Cube Farms, they are far better than the current setup. Have events is closed off areas or off site. Provide quiet area if staff don't have a full time private space.

I worked at Expedia full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of bright minds and good resources.

    Cons

Very political environment. Need to fight to keep your position. Everyone is trying to score at the expense of someone else.

    Advice to Management

Have faith in your people and help them grow
