I worked at Expedia as a contractor

    Pros

    -Great views of the city.
-Beer and wine Fridays in the summer.
    -Pay was pretty good.

    Cons

-As a contractor I felt like a leper. I was first placed in a cubicle in a section different from the rest of my team. Nobody in that area EVER said one word to me-not even good morning. Even a few people who were on my team barely said a word to me. Full time employees seemed to be very cliquey. I felt like I was looked down upon from my manager as well. I had more conversation with my cats when I got home than I did with any coworkers!
-Team members prefer to IM you a big long message rather than simply asking you when all they need to do is turn around in their seat and ask. That added to the feeling of isolation.
-As a contractor you never knew what was going on in the company. All these meetings were taking place and you had no clue.

    Advice to Management

-Make EVERYONE feel like they are part of the team...even if they are only going to be there for a few months.
-Let contractors know what is going on with the company and not leave them in the dark.

I have been working at Expedia full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People who work here really love all things travel. Currently, the company is growing in many ways - it's firmed up their brand presence, it is working to become more innovative and agile, and it continues to add employee benefits to the mix. The company is starting to realize that to be competitive with Microsoft and Amazon they must pay top talent more.

    Cons

As with any other company there are silos - often one side of the business doesn't talk to the other. There is no formalized mentoring program, the career is 100% in your hands. Unless you are lucky, you probably won't have anyone that will help you develop your skills, or move to the next step in your career. There is a lack of female leadership on the VP level.

    Advice to Management

Develop your talent or you will lose it.
