I have been working at Eze Software full-time

Pros

QA training program is very thorough. It teaches you all about the industry, the OMS, and the technology behind it. What's great is that you don't need to have a lot of finance or tech experience going into the position. The managers, leads, and other more senior analysts provide a lot of hands on support. You also get to help train some of the newer analysts as they start.

Cons

It is definitely overwhelming at first and there are high expectations of you right from the start.

I have been working at Eze Software full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Eze truly is a place that rewards hard work. Talented people from different academic backgrounds are hired into entry level positions and given an opportunity to thrive and grow in a meritocratic environment. The Leadership Development Program combines an entry level position, where you are immediately a contributor, and "on the job" training/knowledge-building designed to prepare new hires to be promoted to a Business Consultant position at one of 5 domestic offices (Boston, NYC, SF, CT, Chicago).

The Business Consultant position is an amazing opportunity to work directly with high profile hedge funds, traditional asset managers, banks, etc. You become the face of Eze Castle and are responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with client contacts. You get to support and manage production environments and projects for existing accounts but are also given the opportunity to implement Eze's software platform from scratch at new clients. The role not only gives you amazing exposure within the company, which can open doors for additional upward mobility within Eze, but it also provides incredible exposure to the financial services industry as a whole.

Overall, Eze is a dynamic work environment, where your day-to-day is always changing. The focus is on teamwork and it is very easy to develop great work relationships with your colleagues as well as long lasting friendships with co-workers. There are also great "small company" type perks like beer on Friday afternoons, a sponsered league basketball team, and sponsored external certifications like the Series 7.

    Cons

You will be challenged here. Dedication and engagement in the work are vital for success and those looking for a 9-5 "punch in-punch out" type of job will be undoubtedly dissapointed.

It can also be a stressful environment at times, particularly when working on hot production issues for clients.

I worked at Eze Software full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Eze Castle is a good place to start if you are just out of college and haven't been accepted at any other companies. The pay is okay and you do get some pretty good benefits including healthcare, dental and a 401k. It's also a decent starter job if you want to get your feet wet in the tech industry. You build some solid debugging skills and learn your way around programs and get a good understanding of the software development life cycle.

    Cons

Instead of a list of cons, here is a comparison between what is advertised in this job and the reality. The leadership development program is split into two groups, QA and GTS. I was in QA for two years and am describing my experience there, I cannot speak to GTS.

    1) Advertised – You are a financial analyst who uses software
Reality – You do 0 financial analysis, you test software for bugs and defects. If you are considering this position as a way into the finance industry, look elsewhere. This is a purely technical position.

    2) Advertised - You are in training to become a ‘consultant’
Reality – ‘Consulting’ in this sense is not at all like the ‘Management Consulting’ you would find at a firm like Deloitte. At Eze you are a mix between account manager and tier 1 tech support. The stress level is very high as is their turnover rate. Most ‘consultants’ burn out within two years.

    3) Advertised – You will only be in training X months.
Reality – They originally told me 9 months, I was there close to two years. They originally told the next new hire group 15 months, my bet they’ll be there around 3 years. Whatever time they quote that you’ll be in QA, double it.

    4) Advertised – We will build your skill set
Reality – Truthfully, you will get incredibly good at understanding the Eze product. You will also likely emerge from QA with your Series 7. However, you will not build any transferable skills of value for any other company. You do not run meetings, scope projects, gather requirements, analyze business processes or interact with clients. This is the largest danger you’ll be taking at Eze. Committing at least two years of your life to a position that teaches you zero skills outside of a single company’s product suite is a serious career risk.

The CON I have to mention – Eze itself is a decent enough company, they pay OK and do try to keep traditions and company culture alive. The one overwhelming con you must take into account is this. Except for one manager, the leadership of the QA division is utterly horrendous. There is zero transparency into management decisions and any attempts to improve the division from analysts are quickly crushed. You will stay late nearly every night not because you have work to do, but because everyone has to keep up appearances. You will not be rewarded for good work and instead be quickly reprimanded for minor mistakes. While I could go on, an ideal example is this. They fire one analyst about every three months for very questionable reasons. For instance, a friend of mine was fired and during his exit interview, they said one of the reasons was because on a Saturday when everyone was in the office working, he asked to go downstairs to the café to get a cup of coffee. I cannot say this enough, if you are smart enough to be hired at Eze, you are smart enough to be hired elsewhere and will be treated with the respect you deserve.

    Advice to Management

    1. Add flexibility to when analysts can come and go during the day. While it’s questionable to require 10+ hours of work a day, if an analyst can choose which ten to work it grants and enormous amount of personal satisfaction.
    2. Give QA analysts extended rotations in other parts of the company. At least month long stints in divisions like PS and GTS will expose analysts to other aspects of the system and break the monotony.
    3. Promote business skills training classes such as meeting management and excel. Silo’ing and analysts skills into only the product suite crushes the level of talent you initially hire.
    4. Treat analysts with respect and reward good work. The feeling of only being ignored and reprimanded crushes talent and innovation.
