I worked at FDIC as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The benefits, experience and overall value of the internship seems great.

    Cons

HR is very bad at recruiting top talent for this program. I am probably overqualified but was deemed ineligible because the recruiters kept giving me inaccurate information on requirements and deadlines. Paid for an official transcript, had a letter of recommendation from an extremely qualified professor and a 3.65 gpa. Was deemed ineligible because of faulty information from the HR representatives. They tried to defend themselves by arguing with me over clear facts via email. Very unprofessional.

    Advice to Management

Hire individuals within your human resources department who actually possess qualifications.

I have been working at FDIC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great atmosphere to work in. Tons of information to learn about banking and finance in general. A unique view of banking that cannot be offered from any other organization. Great people to learn with and from on a daily basis if you are good at networking and socializing.

    Cons

VERY beaurocratic. Challenging to get promoted if you are not already a specialist - virtually impossible for technicians. The "don't rock the boat" mentality of most managers can be difficult to deal with. Trying to stand out by working hard can put a target on your back - frustrating. An unusual mix of older aged employees trying to make their time last a few more years and "slow down", and young people trying to get the work done to impress management for their own personal growth - conflicting interest among those two elements of the work force. Permanent employees are the "protected species" while "temps" are made to do all the work, only to be booted out when it's done.

    Advice to Management

Look to the younger employees already inside the organization for new permanent work force, rather than recruiting kids with no experience straight from colleges.....very exlusionary hiring processes seem rather discriminatory.
