Pros

Let me get back to you on that one.

Cons

Upper management has no clue what it means to manage people. I am amazed at the turnover rate. The morale in the office is horrible. Micromanaging is counterproductive. Most of us are used to walking into a job where the procedures already exist and we just need to implement them.

Advice to Management

For all in upper management, understand that when running a business, people are what keeps you in business. Not only outside clients, but internal clients (employees). Without the employees to do the work, you have no business, so value them as such. Understand that it takes money to make money. In some offices it is blatantly obvious the moral is awful, so stop turning a blind eye and address the situation directly. If there has been a revolving door in a particular position or department, wake up. There is a problem. Do not chalk it up to "personality conflict." Lastly, HR is supposed to be a place where an employee can speak to someone with the expectation that it is personal and will not be shared. Employees should have that confidence. My experience has been that HR does not have an employee’s best interest at heart. They are there solely to protect the company. To believe otherwise is foolish. Faithful+Gould has potential to grow up and play among the adults but it can't be reached because several people are incapable of creating the right type of work environment to foster it. The dinosaurs need to be replaced.

    I worked at Faithful + Gould full-time

    Pros

Great people to get on with and there are opportunities of international travel within the groups.
Work can be flexible and many staff drop children off in a morning and works little later or vice Versa.
Support for RICS chartership and other professional qualifications is extremely good and very well supported.

    Cons

Promotion is slow, wages are below market rate. Processes are getting longer and it's always a stressful effort to get a proposal to bid stage.

Time sheets are a nightmare with internal policies putting pressure on job numbers, which cause major rob Peter to pay Paul scenarios and staff end up with work to do but no time to book to their timesheets.
The company car system is getting a joke. If you scratch the car or get a stone chip you have to pay £250.
There is a lot of driving to be done, don't expect to work near your office. You will find yourself in London one week and Scotland the next.... add this to the risk of stone chips to your company car

    Advice to Management

Review internal processes and steam line them.

Sort the company car policy out or get rid of it.

Work with other offices and not just look after your own office's P&L

    Pros

Big company perks like gym, reasonable salaries, possibility of joining wider Atkins Group for international jobs etc.

    Cons

Culture is primarily male, white, not particularly dynamic other than at the highest levels. Don't seem to even recognise that they are losing senior females due to the assumptions made, rather than any real change in attitude of women returners. There is certainly also a "keep in with the important people if you want to progress".

    Advice to Management

Do a proper, non-prejudiced set of exit interviews with the women who leave....
