I worked at Family Dollar Stores full-time (More than a year)

Pros

I had a job and as with every life experience I learned some new things.

Cons

They pay you a salary with the expectation that you will work 52 hours. You are allowed a payroll budget for cashiers and assistant managers that does not stretch to the hours that you are required to be open. This means that you will be scheduling, not only your own 52 hours but also scheduling so as to not have to pay for an assistant manager. In effect, your salaried position, per hour will become closer to the assistant managers pay.

Advice to Management

Your Store Managers typically last less than a year. Spend more time developing good quality managers and a position that they would desire stay in instead of using all your time, money and energy running through slew of unhappy managers.

I have been working at Family Dollar Stores full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I came into the company in an entry level business role, but was quickly recruited for IT. I have been consistently promoted and given new opportunities. It has been a great place to work, and I could not imagine my career being where it is without having gone to FD.

    Cons

Pay could be better, but they also don't expect you to work huge hours. Vacation policy sucks (2 weeks to start, 3 weeks after 7 years), but it is loosely enforced in my department.

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking that your employees should be lucky to have a job. You are lucky to have so many great dedicated people working for you.

  2. "Dissatisfaction with this Company- There is a lot of bullying and favoritism from the Store Managers."

I worked at Family Dollar Stores part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    The customers are very friendly.

    Cons

Lots of complaints and shortage of hours.

    Advice to Management

Managers need to be well trained to be able to treat associates and managers in a respectful manner. These managers do not know how to treat others respectfully.
