Pros

Family Tree is a great organization with a committed and creative staff that provides client-focused services. The organization has a lot of long-time community support.

Cons

Like most nonprofits, managers and supervisors have more than full-time jobs and facilities need upgrading. Never enough dollars to meet all needs.

Advice to Management

They do a great job.

I worked at Family Tree full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The staff if composed of some very dedicated, caring and successful workers. The overall feel of the work atmosphere is positive and supportive.

    Cons

The leadership and management efforts are lacking which has had a tremendous impact on staff and clients. The organization and and protocols of programs are outdated and inefficient. Mismanagement of budgets is a regular occurrence--often time resulting in front-line workers having to tell clients "we said we could help but as it turns out we don't have the funds." Sometimes budget oversight responsibilities are delegated to case managers. Case managers are over-burdened and drastically underpaid. The employee benefits package seems to be decrease every year or two.

    Advice to Management

Provide leadership, management and oversight of programs.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Some really good program staff who are very committed to serving clients.

    Cons

The organization does not manage expenditures related to programs. No concept of sustainable programing. Facilities are in very poor condition. Employees are so underpaid they could qualify for Family Tree's programs. Inadequate staffing, so heavy work loads. Administrative staff have lofty titles, such as, Director, when they neither direct nor have management responsibilities. Under performance by administrative and fundraising staff is the norm. No accountability.

    Advice to Management

Need better leadership. Senior management, primarily the CEO, is rarely visible. The organization has been struggling for 7-8 years.
