I worked at Fannie Mae full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Fantastic employees who are willing to make incredible sacrifices for the company, hours, weekend, work-lie balance. They are a "do what it take" group.

Cons

Technology organization has lost its way. Outsourcing important work to vendors with very junior resources. Change is bad to senior management - technology used to be empowered to provide value to the business. Senior management has erected so many barriers to deployments that it makes months to deploy simple changes to the production environment.

I have been working at Fannie Mae full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits and "decent" compensation. Decent work life balance. Good "foot in the door" job but most of the time can only transition if you know someone.

    Cons

Too much favoritism, they hire who they want over qualifications (their own referrals), no room for growth. Continuously adding to job description with no change in compensation.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees, stand up to YOUR upper management and just don't agree with everything thrown at you. Consider the job we handle (for this position) and know it can be stressful and affect your life outside of work. Have more room for growth and allow for training/career development to broaden your knowledge outside of the regular scope of work. Have better compensation considering the cost of living in dc/md/va and job stress. The retention rate is very low in this department mainly due to management. Hire based on qualifications and work ethic! Great company, sorry department.
