I worked at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Good opportunity to gain some experience and then better of jumping ship. Decent benefits with pension plan and 401k plan with matching.

Cons

You will work long hours so be prepared - sometimes 60-70 hours per week even if you are on salary. You also have to commit to a joint sales program where you as a manager have to sell auto, home and life insurance policies and then assign them to an agent and receive zero compensation. The underwriting group in Columbus, OH has not a clue and so it's easier for them to just decline the underwriting decision.

Advice to Management

Stop micro-managing because it's not conducive to a natural and amiable work environment. Hire AP managers who actually have a background in insurance so they can provide proper guidance to performance team and agents. Human Resources needs to genuinely listen to employee complaints and not automatically side with management just because they work with one another. Rather than just pulling rates out of the air do some research and take a look at your competition before deciding what they will be.

    Pros

You can work when/where you want and market your own agency how you want to. Renewals come every 6 and 12 months which are great commission to look forward to.

    Cons

Very competitive. Rates are competitive. Finding leads is difficult and expensive

  2. "Very disappointed in the company's lack of new employee support and training."

    Pros

If you have a large group of family and friends that will sign up because they like you, this may be an opportunity for you.

    Cons

Total lack of training and support for new Agents.....the Ready, Fire, Aim approach to selling is NOT an effective way for new Agents to enter the market.

    Advice to Management

Create an intensive two week training class on product and selling.
