I worked at Fastenal full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

training program is great, my store manager was great considerate of time off needed and flexible scheduling, enjoyed the customers

Cons

District manager was very hands off which can be good and bad. He only cared about the numbers not very motivating and not helpful at all with questions or training

Advice to Management

There seems to be a disconnect between the stores, competition is good however sometimes teamwork between stores for the good of the customer is needed.

    Pros

    Decent benefits. Decent paid time off.

    Cons

    Unless one is at the District Manager level or higher, one is poorly compensated for one's efforts. The heart, sole, and foundation of this company comes through sales of the entry level sales position. And these entry level sales are poorly paid. The base pay hasn't increased in 10+ years. That would be fine if the commission schedule was reasonable, but 66+% is from base pay. This isn't an absolute rule and there are some exceptions. But because of inflation and the value of a dollar, the person in the same position 10 years ago was making a lot more money than the person, today.

    Advice to Management

    Keep your OSPs happy buy increasing their pay substantially. Studies show that increased pay leads to more efficient and happy workers.
