I worked at FedEx Freight full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Good pay and benefits as well as opportunities for advancement and even relocation if so desired.
Good tractors which are well maintained.

Cons

After over 10 years with a good record, I was dismissed after a Worker's Comp injury left me with a less then 5% disability. So long career.

Advice to Management

Your employees are people, not replaceable robots. More emphasis on people and less on profit margin would make for a much better work environment for all.

    Pros

Good pay. Good benefits for full time employees.

    Cons

The full time employees are treated differently then the part time employees. If you are full time you receive paid vacation and paid holidays. But if you are a part time employee you will not receive any of these benefits. When it is slow during the winter season the full time employees will continue to work 40 hours a week. If you are a part time employee your hours are cut back drastically. Usually 4-5 days a MONTH if you are lucky.

The management micro manages the employees. Managers have favorites and the other employees are treated poorly. The turn over is very high, on average several employees a month. The part time employees are treated like they are disposable and are not treated equally as the full time employees. All the staff FT and PT are overworked and stressed. The supervisors could care less how the work gets done as long as it is done, even if they are short staffed. Complaining to HR is useless. They will always tow the company line.

Management expects the employees to lie to the customers on a regular basis.

    Advice to Management

Stop micro managing the employees. Treat them all with dignity and respect. All employees should be treated equally.

I have been working at FedEx Freight full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are ok. Solid job security if you're a company guy. Starting pay was more than expected. You can work your way up if you don't have a soul nor life outside of work.

    Cons

Where do i start??? Very little flexibility in shift. Murderous hours for ops supervisors. Salaried employees are worked like dogs while hourly employees are written up if they go 3 minutes over. Supervisors work the floor 10-12 hrs per day standing with no breaks or lunch on average. I've seen 13 hr days same thing. Ops supv writes up dock workers for low output even when they are purposely being safe and tying down cargo as instructed. Lose lose situation. Go slow. Trouble. Take extra time with cargo doing it right. Trouble. Crash a forklift trying to increase output trouble. Cargo gets jacked up enroute to dest. Trouble. Unachievable goals. Dock workers make literally 300 bucks per week before taxes but are worked like they are getting 50 an hr. Salaried employees can't complain about 60 to.70 hr weeks with NO addl cash flow cause you're ostracized by the yes men/company guys. No work life balance if your spouse children work or go to school during the day like normal ppl. Company only cares about the "purple promise" while the workers bleed. The economy has made treating employees like this possible because unemployment rates provide a steady flow of zombies that will accept the conditions.

    Advice to Management

Stop taking micro management to a cellular level. Offer Salaried employees overtime like other billion dollar companies to entice "buy in" on 60 hr weeks. Treat dock workers les like cattle and more like the life blood of what you do. If you're going to have ops supervisors stand on the dock for 12+ hrs have a plan to at least offer a lunch break as is required by law. And purchase some stools since half the time we're standing at a computer anyway. If you did this for 5+ years there's definitely a lower back lawsuit coming your way x1000. The purple promise is great but take care of the people wearing purple first and theyll take care of the company.
