Pros

There is a lot of stability in the firm and industry (though not at this moment). You have to have already decided what you want to do in life before you start here. Most employees have considerable experience before they've entered the firm. Not much room to try new things and get exposure to different facets of the business.

Cons

Smaller firm in the bond insurance business. No real pipeline to develop talent within firm. Not many mentor-mentee relationships. It's almost as if people don't like each other.

Advice to Management

There is a high level of tolerance for unproductive people within the firm. People get away with slacking off in a way they wouldn't at any other company, which hurts morale of those who actually do their work...

I worked at Fgic full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

People, People, People. All the people in the company are so great, it is very sad to see this company goes down. Do you recall that scene from The Titanic where those group of very nice musicians continue to play and entertain people even the ship is sinking. The people remain in FGIC are those musician. Nice People, Wrong Ship.

    Cons

It is extremely sad to see such a good company to go down like this because of the Wall Street sharks. AIG is too big to fell but little FGIC have been forgotten. Too bad.

    Advice to Management

I wish you guys win all of the legal battle with those Wall Street sharks to at least keep FGIC afloat much longer. I have so many good friends still work there.

    Pros

    Good work and life balance.

    Cons

Unfortunately, most people are not incentivized to contribute. Everyone is just a paper pusher. No career opportunities at this company because it is in run off.
