I have been working at Fidelity Investments full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Dedicated, smart, passionate people in every department, including design. A huge focus on great user experience. Great benefits and pay. Flexible hours.

Cons

Slow pace. Don't always have the tools or help you need. Frustratingly behind the times technology and development. Development that has been almost completely outsourced overseas - working closely with your developers is next to impossible.

Advice to Management

Don't segment the aspects of design and development so much - they should work together as a team. Upgrade the back-end systems - big-time and right away.

Privately owned, excellent training programs, solid benefits, competitive pay.

    Cons

corporate process sometimes gets in the way of productivity

    Advice to Management

flexible workplace will bring more talent to the industry. ask your working Moms/Dads what would work best for them and design a program using the input for a mutually beneficial that will really work. You won't find a more loyal set of employees.

I have been working at Fidelity Investments full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent salary. Huge investment in IT. Able to move sideways to new jobs. Willing to try new things.

    Cons

Shuffle, shuffle, shuffle. Lots of people movement which has to be expensive. Cutting a lot of IT jobs in Boston and moving to TX, NC or overseas. sometimes there is too much willingness to try new things; there are 4 tools for everything, little is integrated, and standardization is not often found. Certain groups have lots of politics. Not a lot of upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

Stop the shuffle; I'm sure you think this is an advantage, but it causes upheaval and costs a fortune. Pick a couple tools; stick with them for more than 4 months. Morale is crashing, at least in IT, because the corp direction, while clear, clearly says we don't care about the IT people in New England.
