I worked at Fidelity Investments full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Fidelity compensates its employees well and provides an exciting and challenging work environment.

Cons

1) Constant re-organizations make it difficult to make change initiatives stick within the organization. Each new leader wants to dismantle previous leaders work and rebuild in his own vision therefore some employees choose to not embrace change because they know they can wait it out until the next re-organization.

2) Mid to upper management his very political and tend to focus on their own personal agenda's versus doing what is right by the firm which frustrates the people who truly want to do the right thing.

Advice to Management

Approximately 7 years ago, Fidelity started hiring external executive leaders from its competitors in New York and Boston versus cultivating talent from within. IT has forever changed the culture of Fidelity and not in a good way. I would suggest a return to the model of cultivating internal talent and moving the executive management team around every 3 to 5 years within Fidelity to provide them with a broad understanding of the entire firm.

I worked at Fidelity Investments full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, 7% 401k matching, excellent healthcare with HSA, Fun & smart people co-workers, good location.

    Cons

The phones are awful, I hated having set 15 breaks and a scheduled lunch that rotated every day. They try and make you believe you have growth opportunities in Jax, but don't be fooled. It's all on the phones. If you like that, great, if you hate the phones do NOT take this job. Managers rotate way too often. They bring in a new manager every few months, ones that have no clue about your subject matter.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.
