Pros

Benefits at Fidelity are great, but are more structured towards the long term. Most of the management are long-termers, so while there is some political in-fighting, it's mostly limited and directed towards the "newcomers" in management. Good and bad, depending which side of the coin you fall on. Not a bank, but still nice to be privately owned in this environment.

Cons

Corporate infighting, and some of the downsides of working at a large firm. Adequate compensation just isn't there at the associate level.

Advice to Management

Look to cultivate and reward the real potential in new hires, and learn to pay the price to retain young talent. Many of the younger employees are ready and capable to handle larger workloads.

    Pros

Paid very well, silly but nice perks with things like a gym with personal trainers and pretty nice cafeteria. Nicely maintained grounds.

    Cons

Everything else, nepotism was king. Meritocracy died a lonely death a long time ago. Large meetings were sessions of the "blame game" with discussions about how things should be "moving forward". X Y scatter plots are not to be used in presentations, even if they are the only sane way to display the information. We love pie, and pie charts.

    Advice to Management

Fire the people under you and then fire yourself. Realize that just because someone has been there for 20 years, it doesn't make them a good employee, it makes them a protected one. Evaluations that had any sort of meaning and the ability to fire people would go a long way.

    Pros

Good work/life balance, average salary with great benefits (especially after 5 years to fully vest).

    Cons

Not many opportunities to move horizontally across the company.

    Advice to Management

You could be a lifer here, as long as you do the minimum to get by.
