I worked at Fireman's Fund Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

I have to tell you, there are absolutely no positive aspects of working for this company. They are dishonest. They will slander you after you leave. I am an honest hardworking person who has been a very successful executive in this industry for more than 2 Decades. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY.

Cons

They are dishonest. They slander their employees. They lie to the Department of Insurance. They lie to their clients. They lie to their employees. There is nothing redeeming about this organization whatsoever.

Advice to Management

get some scruples. get some integrity. Stop slandering ex-employees. Stop lying.

I worked at Fireman's Fund Insurance full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was a paycheck. Some benefits were the food court served descent food and the grounds were nice and quite large for walks. You also had a 37.5 hour work week compared to 40 plus.

    Cons

Terrible upper management who only looked out for themselves. Little to no room for advancement. Corporate infrastructure was old and not up to date. Typical large corporate environment. Upper management doesn't know or care who you are.

    Advice to Management

Invest in upgrading corporate infrastructure. Focus on keeping productive and knowledgeable employees and rewarding them to minimize turnover.

I have been working at Fireman's Fund Insurance full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits are decent, some really great employees and talent. Turnover has allowed opportunities for other positions. Past senior mgmt is gone- they were very damaging to the company as promoted based upon friendship and location vs. talent and best qualified.

    Cons

Still have some poorly qualified AVP's from past administration who have no business holding these positions and make poor decisions due to ignorance of the lines they oversee. Still a beauty contest when it comes to salary/promotions and a forced bell curve. HR is a joke- protects sr mgmt at all costs. Little work/life balance-expectation that you be available to CA timed meetings so work much more hours than paid for. Have to leave to get a proper raise.

    Advice to Management

Lose the bell curve for salary admin, along with the mid point target and start to pay for true performance. Listen to the staff, 360's for the AVP level and up and f/up on same.
