I have been working at First American full-time (More than a year)

Pros

light work load, easy processes and an overall enjoyable atmosphere; projects were interesting and swift paced. Most of the staff were easy to work with and enjoyed what they did. Location was very easy to get to and the facility was nice.

Cons

management had hard time being transparent to the teams in giving company updates, future plans and changes. Definitely some political maneuvering giong on, but if you're just looking to collect a check this is the place.

Advice to Management

be transparent and honest with your subordinates; have a plan and stick to it

    Pros

You get to see what a really bad company with shady employees is like and take that experience to your next job and appreciate a good company with good people

    Cons

If you are a software developer or work in IT beware, this company outsourced lots of their jobs to India. The code base is terrible and once you are hired you would do little else but software support regardless of what they told you in the interview (in fact there is very little truth about what they told you in the job interview and actual reality) . The examiner's work bench application took years to develop and over a dozen employees to maintain. There is constant fighting and blaming among the employees. If you are new, they will try to blame you the existing problems in the applications even if you didn't write any code. Management have little expertise or didn't care about the constant in-fighting and back-stabbing (it's pretty much your words against anyone else in the blaming game) Working late is the norm due to conferences between India and USA (during the interview they told you work is 8-5). You are expected to come in on the weekend to do deployments and catch up with work which you are overloaded with. The job description is very different from what you actually do once hired. Management is incompetent and unprofessional -many have little background in technology or software development itself and got their position due to length of service with the company or were hired because they know someone in the company. Management is shady and lie right to your face (including to their bosses). Culture of the department is similar to that of a used-car sales lot.

    Advice to Management

Hire knowledgeable, intelligent people with a high degree of integrity for management roles.

I worked at First American full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Paid time off is accrued and employees are able to use it as needed. Various free training is available at all times.

    Cons

High turn around. Not many experienced employees are left. Management does not communicate with the employees. You are treated as a number and only hear from management when there is a problem. Don't get sick because there is no sympathy. When they present you with a write up, expect the worst. I would not recommend this company to anyone. It is just a matter of time until they crash. Too many unexperienced people.

    Advice to Management

If you want to get rid of an employee due to management changes, don't make up lies to make the employee look bad without having any proof. Keep jobs in the U.S.A. Customers don't want to pay the high costs of title insurance to have their property searched in foreign countries. Support the U.S.A. Make it a point to communicate changes, before you repremand employees for not complying.
