I have been working at First American full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Company is conservative in its business philosophy; management is caring toward employees, industry is mature and stable, headquarters campus is beautiful and well maintained. Management is working hard on improving work-life balance and employee assistance in many areas.

Cons

Some departments especially IT are bureaucratic. Company is starting to lose its family-oriented atmosphere and becoming more corporate-like. This is understandable given the size and growth of the last two decades.

    I worked at First American full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Basically a 9-5 job; Late nights and/or weekends are generally not required. Good work-life balance.

    Cons

    Most of the typing, data entry, and clerical work is outsourced to India. This results in slow turn around time, lots of errors, and frustration among the U.S. office employees responsible for the ultimate product.

    Management is seriously lacking. Everyone is out for themselves, and individual employees are not valued. There is no room for growth unless you are a 'yes man' who will do what you are told without question. If you are a robot with no ideas of your own, who doesn't mind being treated like a second-rate fast food employee, work here.

    Advice to Management

    Hire managers who have actually done the jobs of the people they are managing. Incompetent management leads to poor moral, and ultimately, the client and the company suffer.
