I have been working at First National Bank of Omaha full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Castle Bank has a good "family" vibe going to it. My branch manager and bankers are very personable and friendly, and genuinely care about their employees. They are pretty understanding and try to accommodate your schedule when they can.

Cons

They are owned by First National Bank of Omaha. So all procedures and rules are handed down from this giant corporation, even when they make no sense or are counterproductive. You would think this would provide better resources/technology but the technology has only gotten more dated and difficult.

Advice to Management

Upper management needs to support the lower level employees in their decisions more(especially when they are following the rules they were trained to follow). Most of the time they will back up the customer which makes the employee feel unappreciated and betrayed.

I have been working at First National Bank of Omaha full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

While it's all one bank, the bank is really split into two parts. A $10 billion regional community bank and a $5 billion national credit card company. This review is about the regional bank.

Great work life balance. Most jobs are 8 to 5 (teller and ops are the exception). Pretty good benefits. Decent PTO. If you live around Omaha, great commitment to the community.

The following may seem like a negative to some, but it's not meant that way. Regardless of your age, if you're looking for somewhere where you can "retire in place", this is it. The performance expectations are pretty low. Show up on time and go home on time. As long as you don't make someone really angry, you pretty much need to commit a felony to get terminated. If you're a marginal performer, they will just move your tasks around to others. The pace is pretty slow. As I mentioned, if you need a place just to park a for while, this is it.

    Cons

The company is only 5,000 employees, but the bureaucracy feels like it should be bigger than the federal government. Things that should take minutes, take months.

Because of the bureaucracy, lots of politics needed to get things done.

Multiple business units all working independently on different implementations of the same projects. Leads to lots of duplication. Then senior management wonders why there is so much duplication and rework.

Frustrating place if you're trying to accomplish things beyond "business as usual." Not much top level leadership. Too much bureaucracy. Too much politics. Too many people marking time.

    Advice to Management

Nothing they haven't heard a million times before.
