Fitbit's mission is great - live a healthier, more active life. It's easy to get behind and I was so excited to join this mission driven company. For the most part, this ethos lives through the company, but it really drops out quickly the further down into teams you get.

This is specific to the design org... pre-Google. It was so weird. Walking in the door, there was so many weird vibes and very quickly realized I could just simply not be myself at this company, within this team. Culturally, it's dead. Withered, dried, dead. Some people tried, but many on the design team were just angry, unhappy, not nice and just not open to new hires they don't understand. It felt cliquey at times, but that bled into the culture across the org.
It didn't help that the product design team was constantly just way understaffed. The entire time I was there. Regardless, it was so hard to really feel valued and seen as part of the design team and often I'd just shut down and do minimally what I had to do to survive. There were a couple of gems there, but as a whole the culture there just felt so toxic. Design leadership did not help either. They were non-existent in both design leadership and helping drive and shape culture.
I hope that Google helps (although, I was there through the transition and in some ways it got worse.) Hopefully over time, the design culture improves.

It's in SF, you will often have to travel via BART if you're not in the city. Unless you're working remotely, which everybody has the option to do.
A mess. Toxic culture. Not valued.
