I have been working at Fitchburg Public Schools part-time

    Pros

    Good hours. Pay is meh.

    Cons

Union sucks. The handling the personalities of some of the employees is hardest part of the job.

    Advice to Management

Ditch the union, privatize. Fresh, new, properly trained employees are in need. Change the culture.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Fitchburg Public Schools full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Teaching can be a very fulfilling career and the students keep everyday interesting and challenging.

    Cons

Superintendent and principal are only concerned with standardized test scores. If your subject is not a focal point of standardized testing, expect minimal support and the expectation that you will become a math or reading/writing teacher in the weeks leading up to big tests.

    Advice to Management

Dare to be honest with staff, especially regarding real goals and budgetary constraints. If you know you can't afford to pay someone based on union contract obligations, don't hire them.
