I have been working at Fluor full-time (More than a year)

Pros

good pay, good experience and good culture. Good opportunities to take on challenging tasks and grow. Get to work the 9/80 schedule that offers good work-life balance. Company is a leader in the industry, get good experience working on big time projects

Cons

The industry is cyclical and as such during downturns extensive lay-offs are common across industry. Fluor in particular has the reputation of larger than normal layoffs compared to peers.

Advice to Management

Develop strategy that minimizes the layoffs during downturns. This will lead to attraction of talent concerned about job security.

I worked at Fluor full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Large projects with unlimited budgets but tight schedules.

    Cons

People are not very bright. Field management and office management seem to understand management but not leadership. Old school management practices. My way or the highway. Lots of uneducated (non-degreed) people in management positions. Comapny has little appreciation for the well educated and top performers. Good ole boy system. Do not expect much from Fluor - except to be laid off.

    Advice to Management

Cluor could have an even larger share of the world market if it placed educated (and experienced) persons in management positions.

Recognize and promote Non-US country residents and consider for jobs overseas
