I have been working at Food Lion full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Flexible schedules to balance school and work commitments
Great leaders inside of retail operations for those who are open minded and willing to take feedback

Cons

Very little room for growth beyond retail positions.
Salaries could be more competitive at all levels
Work/ Life balance can be very difficult at times

Advice to Management

Revisit the company's new corporate structure. Review the incentives that have been taken away in recent years. Many associate's viewed these as the reason to continue employment. Sometimes performing above the industry standard will assist with attracting "high-level" talent

I worked at Food Lion full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    1)It's a job

2)You can get a management role very easily which will allow you the opportunity to go somewhere else to make the money and say you have management experience.

    Cons

1)Pay is embarrassing compared to competitors. Bonuses and pay increases have essentially disappeared over the past few years.

2)Constantly cutting labor to save pennies which leads to poor customer service and more work for everyone in a shorter amount of time.

3)Due to the labor cuts, teamwork has been removed from operations. It has become every man/woman for themselves which ultimately leads to poor working conditions.

    Advice to Management

Food Lion used to be an amazing place to work but it is having an atrocious time dealing with competition and reacting to changes in the industry. Unfortunately Food Lion is being left in the dust while the competition joins together and becomes stronger to fight off Wal Mart and the struggling industry. I would recommend Food Lion to anyone who is desperate for work as an in between job but would strongly caution anyone to even think of considering Food Lion as a long term career option.

If Food Lion is serious about turning things around they need to immediately invest more in the most important part of any retail business, the people.

I worked at Food Lion part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

great store managers but that's about it for leadership

    Cons

Department leaders favor employees and do not work schedules equally. More experienced employees are neglected in favor of part-time kids and yes-men that earn less.

    Advice to Management

You need to better choose who gets a leadership position. Time spent in to company should not be a deciding factor when they are not properly taught how to communicate with those they manage. Its easy to talk at someone.
