Laid back and hard to get fired - Engineer Ford Motor Company Employee Review
- 4.0Apr 26, 2017EngineerCurrent Contractor, more than 3 yearsLondon, England
Pros
relaxed culture and easy going people. The work is fairly standard and divided up quite a lot. Pay is quite good relative to the rest of the country. Good stepping stone into the automotive sector if you wish it.
Cons
Ageing workforce, outdated management structure, no room for promotion unless someone dies or quits basically. Very negative approach to problem solving too.

Pros
Ford is undergoing a vast transformation at the moment. New performance process seems to more fairly differentiate between "High Performers" and average/low performers. There are so many different pockets and disciplines within the company that there is always something to do. If you join and don't feel you're in the exact right spot, chances are there is something Ford offers that is for you. Generally feel that the company cares about your well-being. Most of my superiors generally seem interested in how I feel about my work. The company seems very competitive when it comes to benefits (PTO, new parent days, health care, etc...)
Cons
Right now, the company is somewhat disorganized. After several re-orgs and new talent coming in, there's a lot of confusion about who is doing what and what everyone's role is. With all of the changes going on in the auto industry, Ford seems somewhat lost about what it wants to be and what direction it needs to go in. Like a lot of big companies, you can definitely feel like you are just a number. Not every organization or leader cares about you or will go out of your way to help you.
