I worked at Fort Worth Independent School District full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Great people working in their schools and central office (on a personal level)

Cons

Too much money being spent on programs that do not directly benefit the students... very wasteful!

Advice to Management

Please visit and plan with your teachers. It appears that you are so out of touch with the classroom and the students. The theoretical ways of education are not inclusive of all students, schools, and teachers. Ask the teachers what they want and need for their kids successful - don't make them use programs that DO NOT work for the kids!

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Fort Worth Independent School District part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Care about their teaching staff, and resists the temptations to fire people for quick profit.
Still supports art programs, despite their state mandated decreases.
    Lots of room for growth.

    Cons

Like any school district, every school is different. Mixed bag of students; mixed bag of commitments; mixed bag of managements; mixed bag of needs to be met.
The human resources department can be a little obtuse at times, and not very streamlined.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Fort Worth Independent School District full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great kids in the district! They pay well.

    Cons

No organization at the administrative level or at the school leve, and teachers get very little support and are typically not heard by anyone who can make a difference. Furthermore, the teachers are not valued for being professionals. Lastly, most of the people at the top have not taught in 20+ years or if they have they taught non-core subjects or only for 3 years and have no clue about what makes successful classrooms. Benefits are the worst I have ever known of!

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to ask the people in the trenches how things are going and where they need your support.
