Pros

Strong on retaining personnel, fair remuneration, strong upper managers, great service concept, great service delivery, consistent culture amongst group

Cons

Objectivity in personnel and career development ends at the executive committee level. Many of the executive characteristics that made them unique innovators in the first 30 years is diluted at the point of expansion.

    I worked at Four Seasons full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Very fulfilling job. You will work with the best in the service industry. Most that work for Four Seasons have a true passion for their careers. Nice benefits that include complimentary stays at any Four Seasons (if available) and their 401K is solid. Another nice thing about working at FS was that most departments have more staff than other hotels because they need to provide luxury service. You will have an opportunity to work at some of the most beautiful places in the world if your willing to relocate.

    Cons

    There are many layers of management and a lot of decisions are made by executives that are not in touch with the ground level departments. In order to purchase the tools you need to do your job it will take weeks / months to receive ordered tools / materials. The salaries they pay their managers are average at best and raises each year are 1-3% of you current base salary. The raises apply to every manager in the hotel whether you are a high performer or a low hanging fruit, you will all get the same increase. Most FS managers that progress quickly are not born in the USA. Due to most departments staffing heavy the bottom line suffers greatly at Four Seasons, this has caused a lot of tension and even separation between the property owners and FS. The properties that have Unions will be much harder to work in as there is much more red tape in disciplining hourly employees.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the department heads and assistant managers more. Before making decisions ask them their opinions. You should make raises based on performance and merit rather than simply giving the same increase to all the managers at the property.
