Pros

The organization provides an opportunity for employees to have a positive impact upon the health of clients, patients and residents. There are a number of opportunties for advancement and employees are given an opportunity to learn and grow in their jobs.

Cons

Demands upon employees are very high due to the complex nature of public health care services. There are many situations where the organization does not have enough resources due to the way in which health services have historically been distributed in BC and the fact that the population within the area that Fraser Health services is growing significantly.

Advice to Management

There needs to be an improved focus on formal and informal employee recognition as a means of providing appreciation for the many hard working individuals at Fraser Health that routinely go above and beyond in their work performance.

    Pros

Majority of co-workers are excellent to work with and show a high level of professionalism and dedication to the service of people in need. Great to have multi-disciplinary teams. Benefits are adequate. Library services are excellent given the huge wealth of research in health care.

    Cons

Loss of community resources we once referred to - now gone due to lack of funding. Backlogs in the system everywhere and most are overworked due to cutbacks in hiring. Too many managers have too many demands and so they are spread too thin as well. Loss of educational opportunities unless dictated by FH.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Fraser Health is a decent place to work because one's efforts support the goals of improving health for those that we serve.

    Cons

Fraser Health is not the best place to work because of too much consolidation. The organization is too large and has moved away from the values and ability to support a quality level of customer service that smaller organizations provide. Consolidation of back office operations on a provincial level will not show any improvements or cost savings without spending tens of millions of dollars. If the province spends tens of millions to consolidate back office functions, returns on this expenditure would not be realized for 7 to 10 years.

    Advice to Management

Attempt to get clearer direction from the Ministry and implement change using standard business structures and philosophy. Don't reinvent the wheel or try to develop hybrid solutions to corporate reorganization.
