I have been working at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

The people at the Hutch are, almost to the person, deeply committed, hard working, highly intelligent and very rewarding colleagues. I have grown tremendously at this institution.

Cons

There are very few cons to share. Perhaps two things: the Hutch doesn't pay nearly as well as a for-profit company would. The Hutch is also, because of Federal funding, somewhat at the mercy of the whims of the Congressional budget process.

Advice to Management

Keep up the wonderful work!

I worked at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center full-time

    Pros

People are rewarded for working hard. I observed multiple people navigate their way up through progressively challenging positions taking on increasing responsibility each step of the way.

    Cons

Being a large organization with multiple departments and many layers, there are two downsides. First, problem staff have a tendency to stick around much longer than they might in a leaner organization. Second, it is particularly challenging to enact bold changes; there are inherent incentives to thinking small and incrementally.

I worked at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working for a world renown institution. Good benefits. Good working conditions as far as the facilities. Ability to move up with the institution.

    Cons

People who have been there for years in admin positions are often gotten rid of so they can be replaced by someone paid less.

    Advice to Management

Value longtime admin staff and treat them better.
