Pros

The other sales associates were great to work with, most had a great attitude and were willing to help out with a sale (which is sometimes rare to find in a climate of commission based pay). Management helped to make the work environment fun and uplifting, even at times when the economy was not doing as well.

Cons

The emphasis that was placed on sales numbers of the sales team at times encouraged some individuals to act inappropriately if they were not working with their customer. Management at times turned a blind eye to inappropriate behaviors of the top sales team members, had other team members with lower sales numbers acted in such a way they would have been fired. At times it can feel a bit like a boys club, with predominately male management.

Advice to Management

Encourage feedback from your employees at all levels. Find a way to reward all members of the sales team, especially those who contribute to the overall running of the store rather than just those who bring in the sales. Often, the higest selling sales team members would not be able to have that position if other members of the sales team were not providing support for them, such as ringing a sale, finishing a transaction, gift wrapping, cleaning the store, stocking the store, taking care of customer issues and repairs, and ticketing merchandise. Often those tasks are handed off to a lower sales team member by a higher sales team member so that they are able to make the next sale. Offering opportunities to hear input and ideas from members of the sales team may help to encourage best practices across the company as discovered by individuals at the front lines of the store. More consistent feedback from management regarding performance as well as providing suggestions for performance would be helpful as well.

    great benefits, very flexible, many availble hours, good communication

    higher management doesnt really pay attention to specifics in individual stores, hard to get compensation for a job well done

    make sure lower management is inspiring and compensating those that are exceeding their job exspectations and responsibilites.
