Pros

You get to take on exciting important projects, projects that save the company hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.

My supervisor facilitated presentations to management which helped get the project I worked on passed.

Very flexible work schedule - I worked anywhere from 4 hr to 14 hr days and from 4 -10 days straight.

Very saftey conscious environment. Daily safety meetings

Laid back friendly coworkers

Cons

Can be difficult to get overtime in an hourly position

60 hr/week expectations for engineers

It is desired that employees relocate every 2 years

There are very unhappy people in laboratory settings

Advice to Management

Make sure to encourage your employees and reward people for their success. Consider giving more overtime to operators.

    Pros

Good benefits, fairly low stress, good pay.

    Cons

Absolutely horrible "office politics" at the management level grind away at personal productivity motivation. Micro-management and control reign supreme.

    Advice to Management

Empower the employee to think, discover, create and accomplish. Give more efforts at praise, admiration, and recognition. Spend less, much less effort at the management level on throttling the employee back to the productivity level of an old mule in a farm field.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Good use of technology in general
    Good exposure to different technologies
Exposure to a worldwide infrastructure, that provides good learning experiences.

    Cons

Middle management micro manages everything. It also appears that middle management does not speak the truth about what is happening in the trenches to upper middle and senior management. There is a very poor project completion rate, which is mainly due to a significant amount of politics and very little or poor operational staffing. Exempt employees are expected to work sixty plus hours a week no exceptions. The environment also has a weird mix of long term and short term contractors. This makes for even more politics. Overall there is a very poor work life balance which pretty much negates any positives.

    Advice to Management

Replace middle and upper middle management with people that are experienced in technology and understand how to get projects done in a reasonable amount of time while providing a good work life balance.
