I have been working at Friendly's Ice Cream part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

decent tips if you get enough tables, some managers let you do whatever you want, cheap ice cream and all the gummy bears you can sneak

    Cons

terrible tips when the management gives you 2 or 3 tables for the night; no alcohol on the menu means lower tips, even when patrons are generous; clients are a mix of families with small kids and trash who can't afford anywhere better, so how well you're tipped varies; slow/understaffed kitchen means food can take a while, which lowers your tip; had to keep my shoes outside because walking around the dessert station would embed crumbs and candy toppings in the soles, and would attract bugs; often didn't have dishwashers, hostesses, or a fountain worker (sundae maker) for the floor because those people get paid more than 2.83 an hour, and it's cheaper to force wait staff to do that

    Advice to Management

don't overstaff -- a 30 table restaurant NEVER needs 8 servers on at once; hire more dishwashers and hostesses so waiters don't have to do that stuff -- we're not getting paid enough to do stuff that takes time away from tipping customers
