I worked at Fund for the Public Interest full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Experience hiring and interviewing/ managerial experience without having any previous experience...

    Cons

65-70 hour weeks (worse in the summer). Mandatory “social” events that you pay for out of pocket. Very little support from regional office. Too many hats to be effective at any of them. Lots of canvassing, basically have to put in a full day of work before heading out to canvass for 5 hours.

    Advice to Management

Give managers a break when it comes to canvassing quotas. It would help them be able to manage the office without worrying about falling 1000s of dollars in the red just to support the staff in the field.

I worked at Fund for the Public Interest full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - great collaborative and supportive atmosphere but always pushes you to do your best - learn essential skills - very fulfilling - useful for career advancement in this field - it’s very very tedious and stressful work but if you are passionate enough about the cause, it will pay off

    Cons

    - hard labor - long days -

I worked at Fund for the Public Interest full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I learned a lot during my time there. I gained people skills, learned how a campaign is run, and was kept up to date about current politics.

    Cons

I worked in the summer, and so the days were long and physically demanding. We would be out canvassing door to door from 3:30pm-8:30pm every night.

    Advice to Management

Care a little more about the canvassers and less about the numbers.
