I worked at GE Aviation as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

There's lots of freedom working as an intern at GE Aviation. There's lots of opportunities to grow as an engineering student. There are online courses and hands-on training courses that you can take at the Learning Center and Customer Technical Education Center. Other than that, just by walking through the plant to see the various process of manufacturing, assemble, and testing of the jet engines, you learn a lot about the technology quickly. The managers are also very happy to let you travel to various facilities in GE to get a feel of other parts of the business. Peebles, for example, is probably the best to visit because of the high profile development test that take place there. Think Mythbuster. Other than work, that are also lots of great outreach opportunity to get part in. For example, there're lots of community service events that GE promote you to take part of. You are doing goods for the community, and even get paid for it!

Cons

Only downside at GE is that as an intern, that's lot of down time. Well, at least if you are in more of an management kind of position. And in the headquarter in Evendale, the unions prevent you from touching any of the hardware. So a simple task like trying to drag a trash can to catch leaking water from the ceiling might get you yelled at. Getting things done take forever.

Advice to Management

Time is money, try to improve worker productivity.

I worked at GE Aviation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great salary and lots of overtime.

    Cons

Work was nothing related to engineering for me. No benefits for interns. Working on weekends. Being a bigger company, things take a lot of time to get done. What I can finish at a smaller company in about a month time takes about 6 months at GE.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and try to work a little faster.
